Chara spent 3 years on the Islanders before he was traded to Ottawa in 2001 in exchange for Alexi Yashin. (Chara was paired with Muckalt and the Islanders' 2nd overall pick which ended up being Spezza) Although Chara never really showed much while in New York, he was a highly touted prospect and grew into the player he is today while in Ottawa. I think it is safe to say that the Sens got the best of this deal. Moral of the story - The Sabres would be wise to hold onto Myers, but history shows that a move can really unleash a player's true talents.

Only in fantasy leagues. Teams almost never move their best young players. It usually happens really early (see Forsberg-Lindros) or after several years (Carter, Richards).

Saying Miller and Myers have trade value is like saying ice hockey is played on ice.
We know that.
When I hear trade value and who is highest, I see players that have the highest possibility to be traded as well as how they rank among the team in worth and what will be brought back.
Not a player who is the teams #1 goalie for a few more seasons and a young DMan who is gonna be here for another 5-7yrs (depending on future play).

I was expecting Goose because he has the potential to leave as well as I expected Roy and Boyes on this list.

Don't tell me the obvious next time, please?

Myers and Miller are going no where, and for obvious reasons. Gaustad and Boyes are almost guaranteed to be traded because they're upcoming veteran UFAs who provide depth for teams looking to make a run at the Cup. Derek Roy is also another possibility. He has one more year left after this season on his deal. I ultimately think he stays in Buffalo for at least the rest of this year. I understand you're pointing out who has the most value but you gotta be a little more logical than this.

There is no way under the sun that Ryan Miller or Tyler Myers will be traded. Myers is here long-term because Darcy wants to build the defense around him. And as much as people say they hate Miller and want him gone, you'll realize how important he is to the franchise once he's gone. The players most likely to be traded at the deadline are Gaustad/Boyes (upcoming UFAs) and Derek Roy (one year left on deal). I understand what you say by the trade value they have but let's not sit here and throw crap at a wall, hoping it sticks.

@Cheeeze92 definitely not. Myers is a franchise defender, he's gonna be our Lidstrom/Chara/Phanuf/, ect. He isn't there yet, but he will get there and in 5 years you'll be crying "why did we ever get rid of Myers?"

I think of the 3 the most likley to be dealt will be gaustad since it doesnt show were giving up on the season and also could be gotten for much cheaper then the other two

Seeing as how this is an opinion piece, they are players the I feel "need" to be traded. Essentially, saying "need" in this sense would be almost identical to saying "should." The only difference is that the word "need" adds more urgency.

Either way, this season is over. If Regier stays, then this team won't improve. If Ruff stays, then this team will continue to stay in neutral and players skills won't improve. I'd like to know if their's another coach in this league who breaks up a line that has or is starting to show good chemistry just because they had a bad game.

Just to clarify an incorrect statistic I provided above, Jordan Leopold IS 2 goals back of Lidstrom and Weber, however Jason Garrison leads all defensemen with 13 goals. Thanks to Chico Resch and the NJ broadcast crew for inaccurate statistics during the game.

You proclaim him the "worst player." That's your opinion, you're entitled to that. The fact of the matter is that Jochen Hecht has been apart of this team for a very long time. When he's healthy, he is a positive for the franchise and arguably the team's number one center. This is definitely a career-threatening concussion. Just take a second to read into what Lindy Ruff said about the injury, it doesn't sound good.
